Mr. Bailey ( Billy Bags) taught me Latin. Surprisingly, being very short, he was a marvellous batsman for the strong Staff cricket XI, which also starred, I recall, "Titch" Ticknall , another outstanding bat, Tom Haller, a fearsome fast bowler and Monty Beaumont, a master of spin , off, leg and googlies.
