What do I remember? Well I remember that I ought to have done better with the facilities available, not waking up to the reality of qualifications until virtually the eleventh hour. I came to HS with a private school background, already having done history, french, geography, and literature. It soon became a case of "Wilkinson..translate this. Wilkinson describe the other. And so on" I rebelled, much to my present dismay, and almost immedietaly went sliding down the class from high to very low. Dreading taking reports home. Coming to my senses in time for the O Levels, thank goodness.
I remember breaktimes and lunchtimes playing football in the yard, keeping an eye out for staff peaking round corners. Climbing up onto the toilet roofs when I kicked the ball up there, which I tried so hard not to do. I remember all my classmates for the 3rd year (3L), and I can rattle off the class register, but why? I was not a monitor or anything. Later on there were Lunchtimes on the roughs, now there's a thought! Monty writing on your chest with his fingernails, usually 0's & X's. Teachers who blatantly were not up to it, and those who were. My word, keep on the right side of Mr Griffin, for instance. Actually, he taught me a lot. I remember Mr Pressgrave coming into the classroom (1P) with red eyes, announcing that the King had died and I could remember most of us thinking "so what". Oh the ignorance of youth. I have a memory of watching the funeral on TV at school but is that my memory playing tricks? Does anyone else remember what happened. I remember loads of trivia, and so whall not go on and on, it probably is not interesting to most readers. I have only just found this site and it is a great pity that it is not patronised more, as I would love to hear about old classmates, etc. Sorry for being long winded about nowt at all. Regards to you all. Jack |
